About CATHY ACE

Cathy Ace loves crime! It’s true – she discovered Nancy Drew in her local library, then found Agatha Christie on her mum’s bookshelves, and she never looked back. Cathy happily admits that the characters she met between the book-covers as a child have influenced her writing. “Nancy Drew was plucky, strong and independent, and Agatha Christie’s puzzles engaged me every time. I love the sort of book that mixes intricate plotting with a dash of danger, and that’s what I’ve tried to create with my Cait Morgan Mystery Series. Creating my series featuring the women of the WISE Enquiries Agency, I've also been able to indulge my love of stately homes, village life and the interplay between characters that can take place in that sort of setting.”

Born and raised in Swansea, South Wales, Cathy is, like her heroine Cait Morgan, now a Canadian citizen. “Cait’s Welsh Canadian, as am I. They say ‘write what you know’, so a short, plus-sized Welsh woman, who’s quite bossy, fits the bill! But Cait and I are not one and the same: she’s got skills and talents I don’t possess, and I’m delighted to say that I don’t usually encounter corpses wherever I go. I’ve burrowed even deeper into my roots by creating a cast of characters in the WISE women who come from all four corners of the United Kingdom, and work in a uniquely British setting – a ducal estate set in the rolling Welsh countryside of the Wye Valley in Powys, where I spent a good deal of time when I was young.”

Cathy’s short stories have appeared in multiple anthologies. Two of her works, “Dear George” and “Domestic Violence”, have also been produced by Jarvis & Ayres Productions as “Afternoon Reading” broadcasts for BBC Radio 4.

Cathy won the 2015 Bony Blithe Award for Best Canadian Light Mystery (for THE CORPSE WITH THE PLATINUM HAIR), was shortlisted again in 2017 (for THE CORPSE WITH THE GARNET FACE) and again in 2018 for her WISE Enquiries Agency Mystery THE CASE OF THE UNSUITABLE SUITOR. “Steve’s Story”, which appears in The Whole She Bang 3, published by Sisters in Crime Toronto, was shortlisted for Best Short Story in the 2017 Arthur Ellis Awards for Excellence in Canadian Crime Writing.

Cathy was proud to be Chair of Crime Writers of Canada from 2016-2018,  and is a member of Sisters in Crime, the Crime Writers Association, Mystery Writers of America and Crime Cymru.

CAIT MORGAN MYSTERY SERIES

5 Stars - Amazon Customer - October 24, 2015 - The Corpse with the Diamond Hand (A Cait Morgan Mystery)

"GREAT COVER - GREAT STORY: One thing I appreciate as a reader is when the author does her research. Diamond Hand was thoroughly researched, but the detail didn't bog down the pace of the story; it was tightly plotted, and fast paced. Starting with a tragedy on a cruise ship, the plot steadily wound its way through several fun twists to a satisfying denouement. I really enjoyed seeing Hawaii through the eyes of an author who’s obviously spent time there observing. I also liked spending time with Cait (I didn't really feel like I knew Bud, except through Cait's eyes, which was appropriate, as Cait is the narrator) and now I can’t wait for the next adventure."

5 Stars - Harbinger DC - November 26, 2014 - The Corpse with the Platinum Hair (A Cait Morgan Mystery)

5 Stars - Ellie's Reads - October 16, 2017 - The Corpse with the Golden Nose (A Cait Morgan Mystery)

"A CEREBRAL AGATHA CHRISTIE. A READING TREAT!: A cerebral Agatha Christie. Wonderful second-in-series book where Cait is getting to know Bud, who we met in book one, in a whole new way. British Columbia wine country on a gourmet dining weekend makes for a most amusing and intriguing setting. Will Cait be the only one who sees a crime for what it really is? Excellent plot, as I've come to expect from this author. I love how Cait thinks things through in her own rare and unique way. And I haven't enjoyed the meal descriptions so much since Lawrence Sanders wrote his classic Archy McNally novels. Such a reading treat!"

5 Stars - Doward Wilson - March 1, 2018 - The Corpse with the Ruby Lips (A Cait Morgan Mystery)

"COLD CASE MURDER HEATS UP: Cait Morgan is doing a stint as a guest professor of criminology in Budapest. Her beloved husband, Bud, is temporarily caring for his parents back home in Vancouver, Canada. Cait is enduring the unwanted nosiness of a fellow professor at the university and one of her students has asked her to help discover who murdered her mother in the 1970's at Cait's university in Vancouver. With the help of Bud's connections to the police and her students family in Budapest, Cait is starting to piece together the events that happened many years earlier. The more she discovers, the more she feels like someone is watching her.
